How to Color Grayscale Water: Waves Big & Small

In this two part video tutorial series, hosted by Jones Flores, we focus on coloring grayscale water. A practice coloring page is provided to support both parts of this tutorial series and to give you an opportunity to color along with Jones.

The tutorials are as follows:

Part 1: Small Waves Color-Along - using the sunset picture from Beautiful Nature, color along with Jones Flores as she shows you how to match your color tones to the lights and darks of the grayscale to produce a beautiful sunset ocean scene. By building up your color values and contrast you will see how you can produce a realistic result. Jones uses Faber Castell Polychromos pencils for this color-along.
Part 2: Big Waves Color-Along - using the big wave picture from Beautiful Nature, color along with Jones Flores as she teaches you more techniques for coloring water, including the specific pencil stroke to use to achieve a sense of movement. Jones uses Prismacolor Premier colored pencils for this color-along.

I purchased the coloring book "Beautiful Nature" by Nicole Stocker in order to follow the video by Jones Flores, "How To Color Grayscale Water: Color Along #1-Small Waves.

I searched my coloring book, but could not find the above referenced grayscale print that was featured in her video. I did, however have a similar print, but it is different in several ways. Do I have a page missing?

I would love to have the exact print of the ocean scene as Ms. Flores. That particular grayscale print warmed my heart and made me excited and anxious to color it.

Could you please direct me in how I can receive this exact print, on a "single-sided acid-free, archival quality paper". I purchased this book believing it would include the referenced grayscale print.

Hi Gabriella,

Thank you very much for purchasing Beautiful Nature! The picture featured in the video tutorial by Jones Flores on small waves is just a portion of the sunset landscape picture in Beautiful Nature. The picture in Beautiful Nature is the full version and you will find that it is the 11th picture from the end of the book. The picture of the clematis is before it and the orchids are after it. The cold grey pencil. ... is that supposed to be 2*3*1? (Cold grey II). 251 is silver. FC makes reading the lettering on their pencils so difficult. It's something they really need to work on.

Hi Teri, oh my golly! I've mistaken 3 as 5! You're absolutely right. I took out my pencils and at first glance again I thought it was 251 and then I looked carefully and it was 231. You're right, it is Cold Grey II and correct number is 231. I will ask Nicole if she could update the blog with the color list with the correct Cold Grey II 9201-231. Thanks dear!
